Qualcomm has come as a major surprise, announcing its new Snapdragon 855 Plus mobile processor, which has been overclock.
The new Snapdragon 855 Plus is further optimized for gaming, VR, AI and 5G connectivity. The eight-core Kryo 485 chip now works up to 2.96 GHz instead of 2.84 GHz. Although the graphics processor used in the Snapdragon 855 Plus is the same as the Snapdragon 855, it provides 15 percent performance increase with the application of overclocking. It also supports the Snapdragon 855 Plus, Wi-Fi 6. These are giant, not innovations, but Qualcomm is betting that GPU performance will be more ideal for gaming.
“Snapdragon 855 Plus will raise the bar for elite gamers with the increase in CPU and GPU performance and elevate experiences for 5G, gaming, AI and XR, which is something our OEM customers look to us to deliver,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Snapdragon 855 Plus is our most advanced mobile platform to date and will build upon the success of the 2019 Android flagship Snapdragon 855 5G mobile platform.”
You won’t have to wait long to see the Snapdragon 855 Plus on the market. Next month, for example, Xiaomi will announce the Mix 4 model with this chipset. It also confirms that the upcoming ROG Phone II in Asus will use this chip.
