Apple is already looking deep into the future. And the future is Apple Glasses. It is a future where smartphones will become extinct – it is a future without an iPhone. Although, right now this statement seems pretty far fetched, it is not at all impossible. A lot of companies including Apple is trying to substitute the smartphone with smart glasses.
TechInDeep News:
Apple Glasses at a glance
There are rumors for some time now, that Apple has a secret team of hundreds of employees working on virtual and augmented reality projects. Currently the company is researching ways of how they can implement virtual and augmented reality into future iOS devices.
Because this has been developing over the course of several years, it is not that unlikely that Apple could launch an augmented reality product as soon as 2022.
AR Glasses were rumored a couple of years back. And thanks to the Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last week we found out some key information. It seems like the Apple Glasses will have two processors. One of them being very similar to the M1 (used in the latest Apple Mac lap top generation) while the other CPU will be somewhat slower.
The wearable device is expected to run on Starboard. Or perhaps glassOS which is a proprietary operating system uncovered in the final version iOS 13.
According to the current information that we have, the first generation of Apple Glasses could be released as soon as the end of next year.
The AR Glasses could be used without a connection to either the iPhone or Mac. The device will also be able to support multiple applications out of the box. This is one of the first steps towards iPhone replacement. But do not worry, Kuo is estimating that this campaign can last up to 10 years before anything drastic happens.
Apple Glasses Specs
Another key component to the Apple Glasses is the Sony 4K Micro OLED display. The glasses are expected to be used as an AR and VR device. Although it is too early to say, it is possible that the first generation of the glasses would only support AR (Augmented Reality).
Because the launch of Apple Glasses is scheduled next year, we should get more information very soon.
In terms of pricing the Apple Glasses are priced at $499. That will require additional prescription fees as well. This price is very much acceptable especially compared to the $3,500 Microsoft Hololens 2.
The price difference is because the glasses are planned to also rely on iPhone for processing. This in turn will cause for the device to have much less parts and complexity. As a result, it is expected to lower the price.
The Apple Glass could well indeed redefine wearable computing. But the much-rumored device still remains somewhat of a mystery.
