Smartphone cameras have improved very significantly since it became a feature. And a 200 megapixel camera is well on its way. At the moment we have some amazing camera going up to more than 100 megapixels. Although a high pixel number doesn’t translate into a better image, it is obvious that is a number race. A number race that Lenovo-owned Motorola might just win.
200MP camera will be adopted by Moto first, then by Xiaomi in the second half of next year, and by 2023, Samsung will adopt 200MP.

The Initial Scoop
It seems like Motorola will be the first manufacturer to use a 200 megapixel camera on its smartphone. The model may debut in the first half of 2022. Motorola will use the new Samsung ISOCELL HP1 sensor that was released in September. The way this sensor works is with a new pixel-binning technology that will be able to provide a maximum image resolution of 200 megapixels.
ISOCELL HP1 Sensor
The new ISOCELL HP1 sensor comes with a pixel size of 0.64-micron pixels. It is also equipped with the Chameleon Cell technology that uses 2×2, 4×4 or full pixel layout – allowing users to capture images anywhere from 12.5 and 200 megapixel resolutions.
The Race
And Xiaomi is next in line. It seems like next year Xiaomi will produce its first 200 megapixel camera smartphone and Samsung will follow with its in-house 200 megapixel camera model in 2023. According to the source Galaxy C23 will be the first Samsung phone that will carry this new camera.
We already know that Motorola is coming up with something new. That is the Edge 30 Ultra model. But, this smartphone will come with a 50 megapixel camera and not 200. However the Moto Edge X is launching in China next month. It is likely that this phone by Motorola may debut as the world’s first phone powered by the Snapdragon 9 Gen 1 chipset. And if everything goes as planned Motorola is on their way to debut as the first brand to launch a 200 megapixel camera phone. Even though Moto Edge X will not pack a 200 megapixel camera, it will still offer a stellar photography experience. Again it will be the first smartphone to feature a 60 megapixel OmniVision OV50A 1/1.55 inch camera sensor.
Now, please note that there is no official statement in regards to these claims. It all comes from an anonymous tipster called Ice Universe on twitter. Although nothing is corroborated, it looks like Ice Universe nurtures close connections with the smart phone industry – and we can trust him.
